Although my work is varied there are many common threads running throughout: multiples and repetition, layers and wrapping, concealment and text. These elements are all underpinned and surrounded by memories which manifest themselves in my recent work as collections of piles; layers of cloth and paper - each a personal but private testimony of my memories made from architect's vellum, brown parcel paper, photographs, maps, old encyclopaedias, newspaper, painted papers and hand-dyed, printed, machine and hand stitched recycled linen. Each carefully chosen cloth, stitch or paper is symbolic: the tenderness of motherhood, the raw emotions of a loss, the contentment of childhood, the protectiveness for my own children at their milestones, the sense of awe from my father's study, the overwhelming love and sadness from poetry. Emotions and memories are wrapped and entwined together with consideration to what I choose to conceal or reveal, which assist me on my cathartic journey. I am in my final year of part-time study in Surface Decoration - BA Hons at Coventry University and enjoy running a variety of workshops at local schools in textiles, art or craft.
